It’s been two years since my last update on Lady of Shalott, and on my blog in general. A lot has happened in my professional life, which has kept me from dedicating as much time as I’d like to my pet projects and blog. However, I expect things to pick up pace in the coming months!

Lady of Shalott

Let’s kick things off with some updates on one of my pet projects, Lady of Shalott, which is a completely homemade dashboard.

We’ve been using it every day for the past few years, and some features have become absolutely essential to our daily lives. I’d say the shared agenda for both Audrey and me, the transport monitoring, and the air quality tracking are features we use several times a day.

I decided to remove the news feature, as it turned out to be kind of useless.

However, a new feature made its debut: energy consumption monitoring. It’s both a fantastic feature and a bit of a double-edged sword; you quickly become obsessed with the energy appetite of certain devices (looking at you, microwave, induction plates, and boiler!).

Another new feature that’s made its debut is “Memories,” which is quite similar to the functionality offered by Google Photos and others. For this, I use a dedicated folder on PCloud and randomly select three pictures every five minutes. It’s always lovely to stir up some good memories, right?

Here are two videos showcasing what the dashboard looks like today. If you skip to the 45-second mark, you’ll notice specific behavior of the energy consumption feature!

You can compare these updates to what we had two years ago, which I shared in a previous blog post.

What’s Next?

I’m already on the brink of rolling out some exciting improvements. The most significant update is the introduction of voice interaction. The dashboard will now have the capability to listen, thanks to Picovoice, and, of course, respond, leveraging the ChatGPT API. It still requires a bit of fine-tuning but it is almost finished. I’m also aiming to run this feature fully locally in the near future. I’m hopeful we’ll be able to use it very soon! Looking forward to share this demo with you!

Blog Updates

As mentioned at the start, the past two years have been quite weird for me. I’ve been overly committed to my professional life, which resulted in neglecting this blog. However, things are changing, and now is the perfect opportunity for me to aim for more regular posts. The initial purpose of this blog was to share experiences from my life, predominantly related to technology, as it’s both my profession and a passion of mine, but not exclusively. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by smart and kind people who contribute to my growth in many areas, and I believe what I learn from them is worth sharing.

I’ll aim to create at least one post per month, and if that goes well, perhaps even more! One of the upcoming posts will likely delve into my professional life over the last two years, as there’s much to share!

In the meantime, take care!

If you’ve got comments, suggestions, or just want to chat, feel free to reach out on any of the platforms listed on the blog’s homepage! I’m always happy to connect. 😊
